Day
1: Depart Newport for Block Island. Our destination
is the Great Salt Pond, one of the nicest natural harbors on
the coast, completely land-locked, offering great protection.
Rent a bike and visit the 150 year old lighthouse on the southwest
corner of the island.
Day 2: Block
Island to Cuttyhunk Island. Cuttyhunk is located at the western
end of the Elizabeth Islands chain. This 15 mile chain, composed
of five major islands and numerous smaller islets, stretches
from Woods Hole at the elbow of Cape Cod toward Block Island.
Days 3 & 4:
Cuttyhunk to Edgartown. A roaring sail down Vineyard Sound
and into Edgartown Harbor will be one of the highlights of
your cruise. Edgartown is a pristine Colonial gem with the
streets lined with old whaling captain's homes. A Guided tour
of the island should be on your itinerary, taking in the rainbow
hued cliff sat Gay Head, the quaint fishing village of Menemsha
(the location for a number of scenes of Jaws), and Oak Bluffs
where Victorian Gingerbread architecture is at its most whimsical.
Day 5: Edgartown
to Nantucket. An early start will get you around Cape Pogueand
into Nantucket by early afternoon. This was once one of the
busiest ports in North America; her architecture reflects
her past. If fishing is of interest, the rips and eddies around
the island are famous for bass and blue fish.
Day 6: Nantucket
to Woods Hole and Hadley's Harbor. Truly one of the prettiest
harbors in the world, Hadley's is nestled into the end of
Naushon Island, just off the Woods Hole. Naushon is a private
island owned by the descendants of the Forbes family.
Day 7: Hadley's
Harbor to Newport. An early start will allow you to stop for
luncheon and a swim somewhere down the Elizabeth Island chain,
perhaps at the beach in Quick's Hole. Or, skip the swim and
head directly for Newport and it's delights. Courtesy of Tom
