Chile Itinerary– Beyond Patagonia
Day 1: Depart Puerto Montt for Calbuco, turning toward the mountain range
through the Chidhuapi channel. During the passage you will be able to observe
marine farming, including the cultivation of mussels, scallops, salmon and pelillo.
Later, as you cross the Gulf of Ancud toward the Andrade Cove, you will be
surrounded by the high peaks and dense forests that Patagonia is known for.
Day 2: This morning, after a fabulous breakfast, we will proceed to
Hornopiren, Rio Negro, located at the foot of the Hornopiren Volcano. Later, we
will continue through the Hornopiren and Cholgo channels until arriving at the
incredible Quintupeu Fjord. Here you will enjoy the cascading waters…and with
any luck, observe Toninas . . . the Southern dolphin!
Day 3: We proceed on to Cahuelmo. On the way, we will visit an impressive
sea lion rookery, home to more than 200 sea lions that will be just meters away
from the yacht! In Cahuelmo, we will visit the hot springs and might even indulge
in a barbecue at the Quincho Country Home, an exclusive hotel just outside the
Vincente Perez Rosales Nat’l Park.. Later on, if the tidal conditions are favorable,
try your hand at fly fishing.
Day 4: Today it is on to Leptepu and a chance to enjoy the vegetation and
vista of this imposing fjord. On the way, we will make a quick stop at Huinay. In
Leptepu, you can visit the famous Pumalin Park and observe the “Deep Ecology”
concept in nature management. Afterwards, we will proceed to the Porcelana
Cove, famous for its hot springs.
Day 5: We will make an early morning departure in order to stop in
Pichicolo for lunch. While we are there, you can visit the Ventisquero salmon
processing plant and observe the pens of Telelel Cove if conditions permit. We
will than return to Puerto Montt via the Paso Nao. As you leave the yacht, you
vow to return . . . soon!
