Cruising the Atlantic Seaboard
Day 1: Board Viaggio in St. Augustine,
Florida, the nation’s oldest city. Maybe take a horse
and buggy tour and cross the Bridge of Lions to Anastasia
Island. After dinner onboard Viaggio take a stroll through
the old city and enjoy the street corner musicians.
Day 2:
After breakfast head for Fernandina Beach and close-by Amelia
Island, Florida, named “Island of Seven Flags”
for the seven flags that have flown over the island. Historic
downtown Fernandina is home to Florida’s oldest saloon,
The Palace.
Day 3:
Across the state line we anchor just off Cumberland Island,
Georgia. Once a private island owned by the Carnegie family,
it a is National Park now. After a picnic lunch on the beach
(keeping on eye out for the wild horses that live here),
you visit the ruins of one of the Carnegie family mansions.
“Dungeoness” burned to the ground long ago but
the ruins and grounds are preserved by the Park Service.
Day 4:
Finds us in Savannah, Georgia. You’ll want to spend
the day here and take in all of the attractions this city
has to offer. After lunch we take a short ride to Hilton
Head Island, South Carolina. We’ll anchor here and
pet the dolphins as they come to the boat for a visit.
Day 5:
We head for charming Charleston, South Carolina. Entering
Charleston Harbor we'll pass Fort Sumter where the first
shots of the Civil War were fired. After dining in one of
Charleston’s gourmet restaurants perhaps you would
like to take a ghost tour through the cobble-stoned streets
of the city.
Day 6: Viaggio
gets underway early bound for Beaufort, North Carolina.
Beaufort is a perfect stop for the boats looking to avoid
going around Cape Hatteras. Here we’ll find a charming
little town, with a rocking chair on every front porch!
Day 7:
We run inside the Outer Banks through Pamlico Sound along
the Intracoastal Waterway on our way to Norfolk, Virginia,
where you will wave goodbye to Viaggio, vowing that next
year you will go all the way north with us, on up to Newport,
RI.
